Description
30" (76 cm.) Felt swivel head with pressed and painted facial features, very strong definition of
cheek, jaw and nose structure, painted brown side-glancing eyes, painted thick brows and
lashes, accented nostrils, closed mouth with firmly-set lips, brown cropped mohair inserted into
scalp, elongated torso and jointed limbs, the arms posed held to hips. Condition: very
good, typical fading of costume,head-dress is not original. Comments: Lenci, mid 1920s,the
doll was shown in their catalog identified simply as #560; although it certainly was a portrayal
of Valentino in the current films "The Sheik" and "The Son of the Sheik",the Lenci firm did not
promote it as such. Value Points: extremely rare model with distinctive facial model and
having very elaborate original costume with detail appliques in felt and metallic thread,as well
as embroidered details, exceptional high boots, sabre, leather belt, and other accoutrements.
Few examples are known to exist of the remarkable portrait doll.
