Description
14"(36 cm.) - 19". Each has pressed flannel head with painted facial features,cloth body with stitch-jointed limbs,and each is dressed in very elaborate costume depicting characters from the film. Condition: excellent with vibrant costume colors and well-preserved facial painting. Marks: Thief of Bagdad Creation,Authentic Dolls inspired by Alexander Korda's "Thief of Bagdad",created by Molly-es (paper label on four,and each paper label has stamp indicating the character shown,including Astrologer,Prince and Lady-in-Waiting and one illegible). Comments: the acclaimed release of the 1940 film,"The Thief of Bagdad",occasioned a number of related dolls,such as this cloth set,each with intricately-designed costumes,by the Philadelphia doll costume designer,Mollye Goldman. In 1935,her company advertised "the latest styles of famous movie stars reproduced in doll clothes". Value Points: very rare set with fine original condition,perfectly-preserved,with original Molly-es tags. Included are two autographed photographs of Sabu,and a coloring book.
