18"(46 cm.) Hand-sculpted head with deeply-crafted brown hair in side-part,painted facial
features,large brown painted eyes with upper lashes,single stroke brows,hinged jaw with
painted teeth,wire monocle,cloth stitch-jointed body with composition hands having sculpted
gloves,and sculpted black shoes,wearing black tuxedo with silk lapels,shirt,vest. Condition:
generally excellent. Comments: an old hand-typed note attached to the doll reads "one-of-a
kind,handmade by Edgar Bergan [sic] for the Effanbee doll company as a sample. It was from
this doll that they designed the one that was on the market. In Edgar Bergen's personal
collection until 1975 when he gave it to its present owner. Personally autographed on the back
of head"(the autograph reads "To Billie from Edgar Bergen") and the doll holds a blue ribbon
from its 1978 UFDC competition.
