33"(84 cm.) Sculpted head depicting the film actress Jane Wyman,with well-defined painted features,sculpted short brown hair,on hand-carved jointed wooden body. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: DW ?58 (head) DW 1958 (body). Comments: portrayed is Jane Wyman,as sculpted,painted and costumed by Diane Wolcott in 1957. At that time,according to an attached letter from Diane Wolcott to Billie Nelson Tyrrell,Jane Wyman "was to do a TV series about a character ?Cleary Penryn' which never came about"; the doll was a prototype model for the show. The doll has only ever been in the possession of the artist and Billie Nelson Tyrrell. Value Points: the doll,preserved in its original custom box labeled "Cleary Penryn",is wearing original artist made tea-room uniform,undergarments,and owns a sturdy wool coat,flowered bonnet,and a pair of sunglasses that perfectly fit. The artist's letter is included with the doll.
