Description
25"(64 cm.) Felt swivel head with pressed and painted facial features,blue side-glancing eyes with brown and grey eyehadow,feathered lashes and brows,accented nostrils,closed mouth,blonde mohair wig in long ringlet curls,muslin torso and elongated felt limbs with jointing at shoulders and stitch-jointing at hips and knees,high heel feet. Condition: generally excellent,stockings worn,shoes missing. Comments: Lenci,circa 1925,the model is popularly known as "Lillian Gish"for its resemblance to the actress (1893-1993) whose career included stage,silent film,and talking films right up until 1987; her most famous role was in the 1915 "Birth of a Nation". Lenci did not officially name the doll for Lillian Gish,but was surely inspired by the actress as seen in the close resemblance. Value Points: rare doll is wearing her original plaid silk layered gown,red felt jacket with black trim,matching bonnet,ruffled sleevelets,petticoat,pantalets,fur muff with felt flowers,The doll has the autograph of Lillian Gish on the back torso.
