Description
8" (20 cm.) A simply-constructed muslin cloth doll has an applied embossed face with
lithographed details,and is wearing her original multi-patterned cotton costume,bonnet and
stockings,along with a Lulu Glaser pin. Condition: generally excellent,tip missing on one carrying
arm of sedan chair. Comments: the doll,known as Dolly Varden,because of her brightly
variegated pattern of costume,was inspired by Lulu Glaser"s performance in the Dolly Varden
Broadway theatre play in 1902. Value Points: perfectly-preserved and charming little doll,along
with a silver metal miniature sedan chair with Varden-style print lining the interior,having raised
lettering on the back "100th Performance Lulu Glaser as Dolly Varden,Herald Square Theatre".
