17"(43 cm.) Socket head,probably of earthenware,with very apt features depicting George
Arliss,has painted brown hair with shaded edging,painted blue eyes in deeply-set sockets with
dark eyeliner and eye shadow,thick brows,pronounced nose,closed mouth,impressed facial
wrinkles and laughter lines,and with original metal monocle,on all-wooden body with dowel-
jointing at shoulders,elbows,wrists,knees and ankles,and ball-swivel at the waist,with antique
formal suit and shirt. Condition: generally excellent,body lightly repainted,uncertain if head and
body are original. Comments: circa 1920,maker unknown,with rare Schoenhut "Manikin"body,the
doll is a perfect portrayal of the Bristish-born early Hollywood film actor. Value Points: superb
portraiture enhanced by fine original painting of complexion,features and hair.
