14" (36 cm.) Polychromed terra cotta shoulderhead of elderly lady, grey sculpted hair loosely waved from face into coiled bun, enamel eyes, closed smiling mouth, row of painted teeth, modeled throat hollow and bosom, tow-wrapped armature posable body, carved wooden lower arms and legs, painted blue stockings, black shoes, wearing original folklore costume comprising jacket formed of unusual gilded tulle overlay on silk and accented with large faux-sapphires, burgundy lace-edged vest, blue silk skirt, paper-lined floral-woven apron. Excellent condition. Neapolitan, mid-1700s.
