Description
15" x 10" x 11". The dainty room box is
constructed with wooden floor and heavy card-stock
walls strengthened with wooden supports and flat
front columns. The exterior is painted original
brown, with faded gilded front columns that match
the painted back wall. The side walls are covered
with beautiful old textured paper in a tapestry
design and ornamented with an actual tapestry
scalloped border around the ceiling edge. There is
lithographed paper to simulate parquet on the
floor. At the back a tall open doorway is hidden
by original fringed draperies, and flanked by a
pair of tall arched windows with unusual tin
insert,to suggest lead glass windows. The house is
furnished with a set of petite silk-upholstered
Walterhausen parlor furniture with cord
edging,including settee,two arm chairs,and three
side chairs. Two soft metal plant stands with onyx
tops display metal vases with plants at the
entrance, early prints and mirrors hang on the
wall, and the family of four small porcelain dolls
in their wonderful antique costumes are gathered
around an ormolu table with large ormolu bird cage
with exotic bird on a perch. A little bisque dog
begs for a treat, and a dainty brooch pin inscribed
"Caroline" is centered on a side wall, suggesting
the name of the room's original owner. Excellent
condition. Mid-19th century,a most charming room
in dainty petite size with rare furnishings.
