Description
20" x 24" x 14". The unusually-shaped room box has
a three-panel domed ceiling,painted blue and cream
exterior with elaborately-ornamented frame. The
interior has original wall and floor papers,the
floor designed to simulate a tapestry carpet. An
elaborate gilded soft metal chandelier with
multi-tiered glass beads centers the room and ten
various prints,lithographs and mirrors decorate
the walls. The house is furnished with an
ebony-finished wooden parlor set upholstered in
original luxury silk/velvet in warm aqua
color,with silk fringe,including settee,four
chairs and foot stools. A fancy ceramic parlor
stove gives warmth,a silver-ormolu tea service by
Erhard & Sohne sits on a small table,two tall
double-handled urns are arranged with dry
flowers,and two gilded metal busts,one of Emperor
Franz-Joseph of Austria,are posed on tall
pedestals. A small bisque cat rests on a stool,and
an open photograph album on the settee suggests
the two bisque dolls,he with sculpted goatee and
formal dress have just returned from the Opera.
Excellent condition. Austria,made by Makart at the
turn of the 19th/20th centuries. The very rare
rooms by Makart are notable for their mixture of
architectural and decorative styles,with a strong
emphasis on Art Nouveau. Rare objects include the
superb parlor ensemble,Erhard silver-ormolu
service,and Austrian ceramic parlor stove.
