Description
31" x 12" x 14". A wooden-framed two room box
features a larger room with two four-pane windows
at the back and a smaller room with one four-pane
window. The rooms have original wall and floor
papers with star patterns and geometric floor
design to simulate inlay woods. Old paper borders
edge the top of each room. A beautiful pale blue
door opens between the two rooms,with paneled
design heightened by dark blue striping. The
larger room has a superb early glass chandelier
and is furnished with period Biedermeier
furnishings including desk with drop front,sofa
with four matching chairs with rose silk
upholstery,pedestal table,cupboard,and various
accessories including a pair of paintings on
tin,bisque busts,porcelain figures,glass tea
service and more. The smaller room has another set
of fine early furnishings with original gold
velvet upholstery and embossed gilt paper
edging,along with two chests,a small table,round
tea table,tin Maerklin stove,lamp with milk glass
globe,porcelain figurines,framed mirror and
prints,and more. The house is peopled by a bisque
mother and three small children,each with sculpted
hair and antique costumes. Structurally
excellent,glass panes missing,wall papers are
original albeit faded. Germany,attributed to
Christian Hacker,mid-19th century,a nearly
identical room is shown in Kohler's book,Christian
Hacker,page 233. This is a lovely room box with
