Description
7 " (19 cm.) h. desk. Of sturdy fruitwood,the set
is decorated with white lacquered paint and
lithographed paper,and enhanced with stenciled
gilt to simulate inlay. Included is a tall
drop-front desk with elaborately-fitted interior
with green and brown stenciled paper,white
columns,mirrored back and pull-out drawer,and with
three drawers with silver knobs,and a hidden
drawer at the base. Along with a four-drawer chest
with columned sides and silver knobs,sewing table
with fitted interior and velvet foot rest,mirror
and long sofa,arm chair with unusual wings,three
side chairs and a footstool with blue silk
upholstery. Good condition,some fading,interior of
sewing table worn,two back legs worn on
sofa,upholstery frail. Germany,circa
1850,J.D.Kestner,the furnishings were illustrated
in an early catalog of the firm,as shown. These
extremely rare early dollhouse furnishings are the
subject of an extensive article in
Puppenmagazin,May 2007,included herein along with
photographs of the set in The Boys' Collection.
