Description
27" x 19" x 14". A wooden-framed doll house store with painted pale green exterior and floor has an elaborately-fitted interior that charmingly combines Art Nouveau with artisan craftsmanship. The attached shelving covers all three walls and includes eight small drawers, eight wide drawers, many open display niches or shelves, and a center cupboard with sliding pebbled-glass doors. The sliding doors are stained a dark brown that is repeated on the interior shelving and nicely contrasts the creamy white of the remainder of the store. There is elaborate fretwork carving in a variety of designs that charmingly combine classic lattice and pinwheel patterns with flowing Art Nouveau; the carving is flat die-cut in the exact manner of Schreiber doll furniture. There is a matching free-standing counter, and all the drawers and doors are enhanced with petal-design porcelain knobs. Excellent condition, few tiny pieces of trim lacking, finish appears to be entirely original with some light spotting on counter top. Germany, circa 1915,attributed to J.F. Schreiber whose firm created this very stylized doll house furniture, doll rooms, stores and kitchens at the beginning of the 20th century. Examples of the doll furnishings are shown in Cieslik,Lexikon der Puppenstuben to note the identical carvings.
