Description
29" x 15" x 13". The large wooden room whose
exterior is painted original ochre with red
striping has ornamental columns at each side, and
is fitted as a grocery store. There is original
paper on the walls and floor which is an elaborate
design to simulate tiles. A floor-to-ceiling wall
of cabinets, counter and display niches lines the
back, highlighted by 12 spice drawers with
faux-marble finish and classic Hacker gilt metal
labels for wonderful foodstuffs such as
Johannisrod,Bonbons,Nudeln,and Gummizucker. There
are matching display cabinets at each end and a
large display and storage area in the center with
intervening fancily-spindled mezzazine shelving;
and a store-length wide counter at the back is
richly ornamented with green and sienna applied
trim. A matching counter is included. Excellent
condition and all-original except side wall papers
are worn and one drawer label is replaced.
Germany,circa 1890,attributed to Christian Hacker.
A classic example of late 19th century store by
that firm with superb architectural and original
fine colors of trim including rare faux-marble
drawers.
