Description
16" x 9 " x 9 ". A wooden-framed shop with arched
window and door at the front is painted original
pale cream/yellow with painted geometric border
and blue stripes, along with stenciled decoupage
flowers; the floor is an elaborate geometric
design,the display counter is faux-marble,and a
meat rack extends around the walls. The shop has a
cast iron ornate meat rack, and a painted blue tin
scale with brass pans. There are two wooden
butcher blocks with cleavers and knives, and the
shop is stocked with a wooden crate of geese and
another of little metal piglets. Prepared paper
mache foods are displayed on the counter, and
various foods hang from the racks. Finally,a
hearty paper mache pig sits, worriedly,in the
doorway. Structurally excellent,the finish is
original albeit well-scrubbed and may originally
have had a decorative cornice at the front.
Germany,Christian Hacker,mid-19th century. Marked
152 pencil script on base. The popular shop was
made for an extended period of time, destined for
the French market.
