16" (41 cm.) Polychromed terra cotta shoulderhead of stern-faced handsome man, sculpted short black hair waved casually from face, incised forehead lines, enamel eyes, closed mouth with firm lips, tinted beard stubble, tow-wrapped posable armature body, carved wooden lower arms and legs, painted dark green stockings and black shoes, wearing lined twill vest, shirt, short pants and carrying a large wide-brimmed straw bonnet lavishly decorated with flowers. Excellent condition. Neapolitan, mid-1700s, outstanding sculpting with fine artistry of painting, excellent detail extending even to his shoes.
