Description
30" x 15" x 13". The open-front grocery store room
has outward-angled sides,ochre painted exterior
and very fancily carved columns at each side of
the front opening. The wall paper is original,as
is the very ornamental floor paper designed to
simulate tile. A floor-to-ceiling cabinet is
attached to the back wall, featuring two
glass-front display cabinets that flank nine food
and condiment drawers with original Hacker gilt
metal drawer labels, all set upon a wide counter
top. There is a pair of matching cabinets at the
angled sides that have additional shelf space as
well as 8 more labeled drawers. Carved
architectural trim with gilt striping enhances the
entire store highlighted by a faux-clock at the
center back. There is a matching
counter,barrel,folding step ladder,a fine brass
and tin scale,and a German bisque store-keeper
with sculpted moustache and original costume.
Excellent original condition throughout,one glass
replaced,one drawer pull lacking. Germany,circa
1890,Christian Hacker,the actual store is
photographed in Kohler's book,Christian
Hacker, page 188,described as "emblazoned with Art
Nouveau ornaments".
