Description
18" (46 cm.) Solid domed bisque head with flat-cut
neck socket,pale blue glass inset eyes,thick dark
eyeliner,painted lashes,feathered brows,accented
nostrils and eye corners,slightly-parted outlined
lips,two rows of tiny porcelain teeth,brunette
mohair fleecy wig,carton torso containing
clockwork mechanism,composition
arms,kid-over-hinged upper legs,composition lower
legs. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Au
Nain Bleu (original label in hat and under slip.
Comments: Jules Steiner,circa 1875,the doll was
commissioned for the luxury Paris doll store,Au
Nain Bleu,and costumed in the couturier workshops
of the store; when wound,the doll turns its head
side to side,waves its arms and legs in a
baby-like manner,and cries "Mama". Value Points:
very beautiful example of the beloved model with
softly-blushed pale bisque,wearing original lavish
antique baby gown with rows of lace,matching
bonnet,rose silk ribbons and original store label.
