Description
18" (46 cm.) Bisque socket head, small brown glass sleep eyes, painted lashes, short feathered brows, accented nostrils, little rounded nose, closed mouth with outlined lips, brunette mohair bobbed wig, composition and wooden ball-jointed body. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Germany 19R24 L.A. & S NY 97.2/3. Comments: portrait doll of the Hollywood silent film star,Baby Peggy Montgomery, considered a silent precursor to Shirley Temple; her first film "The Darling of New York" in 1923 appeared when she was 3 1/2 years old,and it is this firm that is referenced on the original tag on her dress "Baby Peggy The Nation's Darling." Sadly, her career was short-lived; by the age of 8 she was finished. Value Points: rare doll with excellent bisque and painting,an apt resemblance to early photographs of the child, this model wears original costume with original paper.
