Description
9" (23 cm.) Wax-over-paper-mache head with solid
dome and flat-cut neck socket that attaches to
torso neck dowel,almond-shaped brown glass enamel
inset eyes,tinted brows,accented nostrils and eye
corners,closed mouth,paper mache shoulder
plate,lower torso,hands and feet,wooden lower arms
and legs,twill upper arms and legs,and twill
midriff enclosing crier bellows. Condition:
generally excellent,twill slightly dusty.
Comments: Sonneberg,circa 1860,the
historically-important doll model was influenced
by the Japanese Ichimatsu doll introduced to
French and German doll makers at the mid-19th
century international fairs,and became the
predecessor to the articulated child doll (bebe).
Value Points: wonderful petite size of the
well-preserved early doll.
