Description
25" (64 cm.) One-piece carved wooden head and
torso,rounded head shape,elongated
throat,flat-back torso with shapely bosom and
waist,dowel-jointed simple wooden arms and
legs,enamel glass eyes,dot-fringed
lashes,single-stroke brows,closed mouth with
center accent line,blush spots on cheeks,new
brunette human hair. Condition: limbs are
replaced,complexion is darkened with some early
repaint. Comments: English,mid-18th century. Value
Points: rare large size with strong
presence,wonderful period-style gown of woven
tapestries,undergarments,fine antique ruffled cap.
The doll was acquired by June Ellen Lane in
1976,and appears to be the first early wooden doll
of her collection.
