Description
20" (51 cm.) x 24". Oil painting on canvas on
original wooden stretchers,featuring a simple
family scene, mother seated with her mending or
lace-making,her son alongside reading from his
book, and her daughter, seated nearby admiring her
doll. The costumes of all, including the doll, are
of the 1820/1830 era,and the doll,in particular,is
quite realistic,an unusual and most desirable
feature of the painting. Excellent overall, with
some few old repairs visible at the back
canvas, and one tiny tear at the side. French, early
1800s. The actual painting is shown in The
Panorama of Parisienne Dolls by Theimer, page 69
