Description
18" (46 cm.) Bisque shoulder head,cobalt blue
glass enamel eyes,dark eyeliner,painted
lashes,lightly-feathered brows,accented nostrils
and eye corners,closed mouth with outlined
lips,unpierced ears,blonde mohair wig over cork
pate,all-wooden body with complex and unique
articulation including swivel waist,articulation
of hips,pin and dowel articulation at
shoulders,elbows and knees,pivot-jointing of
forearms,gutta percha hands. Condition: generally
excellent,finish worn on hands. Marks: Brevete
SGDG Martin Paris (brass plate on torso).
Comments: Benoit Louis Martin,who deposed his
system of body articulation in 1863 which was
designed to allow the doll extremely flexibility
of all the joints,particularly the hips so that
the doll could easily sit. Later versions of the
doll carried the phrase "La Poupee Phenix" on the
name plate; this is one of the earliest version of
the Martin's doll. Value Points: extremely rare
poupee with well-preserved body,original
label,beautiful bisque,painting and eyes.
