Description
18" (46 cm.) A bisque-headed lady is seated on the
edge of a velvet-covered base,her shapely legs
crossed at the knees, and her bisque-hand arms
uphold with a tambourine in one and a mask in the
other; she has large brown glass paperweight
eyes,painted lashes and brows,accented nostrils
and eye corners, closed mouth with outlined
lips, luxurious brunette mohair wig over cork
pate,carton torso and legs,hinged right hip,bisque
forearms, with original burgundy silk gown with
gilt metallic lace trim. Condition: generally
excellent,mechanism a bit sporadic,one finger
chipped. Comments: Lambert,circa 1890. When
wound, and lever released, the doll turns her head
side to side while alternately lifting and shaking
the tambourine and lifting the mask to her face
when head is turned in that direction; meanwhile
she appears to "tap" her foot to the music as her
right leg lifts and lowers; music plays. Value
Points: charming automaton accentuated by
beautiful bisque face with dramatically large
brown eyes and luxurious hair, original tune label
on base "Carmen Polka".
