23" (58 cm.) Paper mache shoulder head of adult
lady with slender oval face,elongated strong
throat,black enamel eyes,painted
lashes,eyeliner,lightly-feathered brows,accented
nostrils,closed mouth with accent line between the
pale lips,black sculpted hair in centerpart,looped
smoothly in front and over the ears and captured
in a tightly braided coiled chignon at the
back,with sculpted ringlet curls tumbling onto her
neck,slender kid body,wooden lower limbs,wearing
original slightly-frail patterned brown cotton
dress with beautifully-fitted
bodice,undergarments. Condition: generally
excellent,the waist is reinforced,nose tip rub.
Comments: Germany,circa 1840. Value Points: rare
large early paper mache doll with most beautiful
face,rare coiffure,enamel eyes,original finish;
the doll belonged to the Hergesheimer family of
West Chester,Pennsylvania and inspired the
novel,Cytherea,written by Joseph Hergesheimer.
