17" (43 cm.) professor,10" and 11"students.
Comprising one professor and six students,each of
all-wool felt with stitch-shaped
faces,center-facial seams,painted
features,jointing at shoulders and hips; the
professor with skinny elongated limbs,large
feet,black shoe-button eyes,white mohair wig under
sewn-on black cap,sewn clenched fists,and wearing
original sewn-on black felt suit; the six students
(four boys and two girls) with blue glass
eyes,mohair wigs and wearing cotton and woolen
school costumes,and each of the boys with original
book back-satchel. Also included are exact wooden
replicas of the original wooden school
desks,blackboard and professor's desk. Condition:
good,some minor moth wear,professor has "Bones"
faintly lettered on his chest and his leather
shoes are worn,some shoes or socks missing. Marks:
(the Professor and four of the students have early
Steiff button in ear). Comments: Steiff,early
1900s,very few of the sets are known to exist; one
is shown in the book The Doll by Carl Fox and
another is in a German museum. Value Points:
extremely rare presentation by Steiff,is as
delightful and charming as it is rare,the
Professor particularly unique in his design.
