15" (38 cm.) Bisque socket head with plump
pear-shaped facial modeling,blue glass inset eyes
with spiral threading,dark eyeliner,painted lashes
with "dot" highlights,mauve blushed eye
shadow,brush-stroked and multi-feathered
brows,accented eye corners,shaded nostrils,closed
mouth with defined space between the shaded
outlined lips,pierced ears,pale blonde mohair wig
over original Schmitt pate,composition and wooden
eight-loose-ball-jointed body with straight wrists
and flat-cut derriere,wearing antique mariner
costume,cap,undergarments,socks,early red kidskin
shoes. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Sch
(in shield,on head,pate,and derriere) 1 (head).
Comments: Schmitt et Fils,circa 1882,the rare
transitional model between the earliest round face
bebe and the pear-shaped facial model. Value
points: beautifully painted features enhanced by
mauve blushed eye shadow,and blush on ear
lobes,cheeks and chin,original wig,pate,body and
body finish.
