Description
20" (51 cm.) Standing upon a red velvet covered
wooden base is a bisque-headed clown with deep
blue glass paperweight inset eyes,dark
eyeliner,lushly-painted lashes,arched feathered
brows,open mouth,tongue,painted clown decorations
on the face,pierced ears,amusing clown bi-color
wig,carton torso and legs,bisque forearms. The
clown is wearing original costume and holds a
chain link in his hands; when wound,the clown
turns his head from side to side,sticks out his
tongue,and "plays" with the magical chain toy he
holds in his hands,while music plays. Condition:
generally excellent,music and mechanism function
well. Comments: attributed to Roullet et
Decamps,circa 1890. Value Points:
beautifully-preserved automaton with amusing
actions,wearing his original silk clown costume
with hand-painted butterfly designs.
