Bisque swivel head on kid-edged bisque shoulder plate, slender elongated face,almond-shaped blue glass enamel inset eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes and brows, shaded nostrils, closed mouth with pale accented lips having enigmatic smiling expression, pierced ears, kid gusset-jointed body with square-cut collarette, wooden arms with dowel-jointing at shoulders, elbows and wrists, lovely silk costume. Condition: generally excellent, old retouch to arms. Marks: J. Comments: Leon Casimir Bru,circa 1872,the model is considered a portrait of the Empress Eugenie. Bru considered this facial model so significant that he took the unusual step of having the model deposed in his name. Value Points: superb modeling, bisque, and painting on the portrait poupee,in very rare larger size, with original body. June Ellen Lane acquired the doll from the Lenore Thomas collection, and it is also photographed in Mildred Seeley's book,How to Collect French Fashions.
