Description
19" (48 cm.) Parian-like bisque bust of an adult
woman at attached bisque pedestal,her head
inclined to the side with sculpted heavily-lidded
downcast eyes and closed mouth modeled as though
open with a row of sculpted teeth,sculpted long
flowing brown hair beneath a sculpted rose bonnet
with ruffled edge and long streamers,sculpted
necklace and a bisque rose that is modestly tucked
in the falling bodice of her decorated blouse.
Condition: generally excellent,small flake on hat
ruffle. Marks: Lemaire (large incised letters at
the back). Comments: the bust was sculpted by
prominent French artist,Hector Lemaine and created
by Henri Ardant & Cie; the piece can be precisely
dated 1883/1885,during the two years that Lemaire
designed for the Ardant firm. Value Points: very
rare bust in grand size with superb detail and
fine condition.
