18" (46 cm.) Pressed bisque socket head with very
full lower cheeks and chin,transitional
pear-shaped face,high domed forehead,almond-shaped
blue glass enamel eyes with spiral threading,thick
black eyeliner,delicately-painted lashes,mauve
blushed eye shadow,lightly-feathered
brows,accented nostrils and eye corners,closed
mouth with defined space between the shaded and
outlined lips,pierced ears,blonde mohair wig over
cork pate,French composition and wooden
eight-loose-ball-jointed body with straight wrists
and flat-cut derriere,nicely costumed in antique
silk dress,fancy
bonnet,undergarments,stockings,leather shoes.
Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Sch (in
shield mark) 3 (head) Sch (shield mark on
derriere). Comments: Schmitt et Fils,circa
1880,the facial model is a rare transition between
the plump round-faced earliest model and the
pear-shaped second model bebe. Value Points: very
fine quality of sculpting including dimpled
chin,philtrum,expressive lips,pointy nose,enhanced
by gorgeous painting of facial features and
blush,original body and body finish.
