Description
18" (46 cm.) Bisque socket head with plump lower
cheeks,large gray glass spiral-threaded eyes with
darker grey iris outer-rims,painted
lashes,pronounced mauve eye shadow,brush-stroked
brows,accented nostrils and eye corners,closed
mouth with defined space between the shaded and
outlined lips,separately-applied pierced
ears,blonde mohair wig over cork pate,French
composition and wooden eight-loose-ball-jointed
body with straight wrists,old costume is included.
Condition: generally excellent. Marks: C EJ
(head) Jumeau Medaille d'Or Paris (body).
Comments: Emile Jumeau,earliest period of the EJ
model,circa 1882,the C remains an elusive marking
but may refer to Carrier-Belleuse who is known to
have sculpted the Bebe Triste for Jumeau during
this period. Value Points: rare and sought-after
model is seldom found,this example with very
beautiful bisque and painting,original signed body
with original finish.
