18" (46 cm.) Pressed bisque swivel head with
elongated portrait-like face on kid-edged bisque
shoulder plate,uniquely-cut pate to allow
realistic wig placement,strong aquiline nose with
accented nostrils,blue glass enamel inset eyes
with spiral-threading,dark eyeliner,painted
lashes,rose-blushed eye shadow,brush-stroked
brows,closed mouth with accented
lips,well-sculpted pierced ears,kid-over-wooden
fully-articulated body with jointing at
shoulders,elbows,hips and knees,bisque lower arms
and hands,wearing beautiful antique silk ivory and
peach gown with elaborate detail at the back and
cuffs,undergarments,leather boots,turquoise
necklace and earrings. Condition: generally
excellent,two fingers restored. Marks: 4 Bte SGDG
(head) 4 FG (shoulder plate). Comments: Leverd &
Cie,circa 1869; the unique wig system of Alexandre
Leverd was deposed in 1869. The actual doll is
shown in The Encyclopedia of French Dolls by
Theimer,page 366. Value Points: extremely rare
poupee retains her original brunette mohair wig as
presented by the maker,has superb portrait
modeling,finest quality of bisque,rare original
wooden body and bisque hands,and outstanding
antique costume.
