22" (56 cm.) Pressed molded leather shoulder head depicting a plump-faced child with oil-painted complexion,hair and facial features,short brown painted hair with delicate curls around the sides of her face,defined ears,very plump cheeks and modeled double chin,painted brown eyes with brown eyeliner and painted lashes,single-stroke brows,closed mouth with center accent line,muslin stitch-jointed body with sewn-on stockings and shoes,leather arms,early white cotton gown and undergarments. Condition: generally excellent,the finish appears entirely original with some very minor craquelure. Comments: attributed to Darrow who patented his design for a molded-leather-head doll in 1866. Value Points: very rare doll with wonderfully-defined features,especially her robust double chin,and beautifully-shaded hair,original body. $800/1000
