15" (38 cm.) Bisque swivel head on kid-edged bisque shoulder plate,almond-shaped blue glass enamel inset eyes,delicately-painted eyeliner and lashes,feathered brows,accented nostrils and eye corners,closed mouth with center accent line,pierced ears,blonde mohair wig over cork pate,kid-over-wooden body with unusual "baggy leg" construction at the dowel-jointed knees,bisque arms from above the elbows with separately-sculpted bisque fingers,beautifully-costumed in peach silk with cream and navy blue trims. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Maison Alice Couterier Paris 8 Rue Dauphin (original paper label). Comments: Marie Emmanuel Cruchet deposed the body model in 1862 (see Theimer,The Panorama of Parisienne Dolls,pp 215-217); the body style appeared with various facial models but was made for a few years only; this example was commissioned for Aux Enfants de France,the doll shop of Alice Couterier,circa 1865. Value Points: rare model with well-preserved deposed body,beautiful bisque face and perfect hands,original wig,original shop label.
