Description
37" x 28" framed,17" x 23" painting. Oil painting
on canvas portrays a dejected young boy seated
upon his over-turned shoeshine box,waiting for a
customer,or perhaps waiting to escape to play with
his brown and white pup that stands nearby. Detail
elements include his costume with turned-up
sleeves and suspenders,and jacket hanging on the
wall near his faded sign. Excellent condition,in
elaborate original gilded gesso and wooden frame.
Signed Paul Quaj (?) '94. The painting is in the
realistic style of John George Brown,one of whose
works,interestingly,is titled "Business Neglected"
and portrays a boy seated on his shoeshine box and
playing a flute. American,1894.
