27" (69 cm.) Paper mache swivel head with sculpted
and painted facial features,dark grey upper
glancing eyes with darker grey outer rims,white
eyedots,black upper eyeliner,brush-stroked
brows,grey eye shadow,accented nostrils,closed
mouth with primly-set lips,blonde mohair wig in
bobbed fashion,stockinette-cloth body with
elongated stitch-jointed limbs,wearing embroidered
white lawn dress,undergarments,blue coat,shoes and
socks. Condition: generally excellent,typical
paint rub on nose. Marks: Dora Petzold Germany
(stamp on torso). Comments: from the studio
workshops of Berlin artist,Dora Petzold,circa
1920,the dolls were described in a Berlin magazine
of the time as "dolls for high society,for the
elegant world,for the boudoir,for the lady". The
artist declared that all of her dolls were created
under her personal supervision,of the finest
materials,and wearing the most fashionable of
costumes. Value Points: rare-to-find doll with
endearing enigmatic expression,the doll was
especially beloved by June Ellen Lane,and
fittingly closes Session I of the auction of her
