Description
(39 cm.) Bisque socket head with deeply-sculpted,shaded blonde bobbed hair with curly bangs, intaglio side-glancing blue eyes with white eyedots, red and black upper eyeliner, single stroke brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with tiny stuck-out tongue tip, outlined lips, composition and wooden ball-jointed body, nicely costumed. Condition: generally excellent, little rub on nose tip. Marks: N&T (script) 4. (head) 39 (torso). Comments: Nockler & Tittel, circa 1910,who advertised themselves in 1910 as "the only doll factory in Saxony"; actually most of their 100 different models were generic dolls that were simply costumed by the firm, and the one exception found to-date is this sculpted-hair side-glancing doll that actually bears the initials of the firm; an interesting article about the firm appears in German Doll Encyclopedia by Cieslik, page 219/220. Value Points: rare character, few are known to exist with deeply-sculpted features and endearing shy expression.
