Description
12" (30 cm.) Of paper mache with gofum-finish,the
loosely-limed child has a solid domed head with
swivel neck,enamel glass inset eyes,tinted
feathery brows,incised eyeliner,incised
nostrils,closed mouth with row of painted
teeth,large sculpted ears,tufts of black human
hair,paper mache torso with hinged "cradle"
waist,cloth upper arms,paper mache lower arms with
swivel wrists,pin-jointing of the legs at
hips,knees and ankles,hollowed back thighs
allowing the doll to be easily posed kneeling or
sitting,wearing splendid silk kimono with
embroidered butterflies and flowers. Condition:
generally excellent,light lip rubs and small flake
on upper eye rim. Comments: Japanese,early-19th
century. Value Points: very rare early play doll
with wonderfully-designed body,original finish.
