Description
22" (56 cm.) Solid domed paper mache shoulder head with oval-shaped head,elongated strong throat,painted black pate under wig,small black enamel eyes,painted lashes and feathered brows,accented nostrils and eye corners,closed mouth with accented lips,kid lady body with gusset-jointing at the hips,slender limbs. Condition: generally excellent,some kid reinforcement of wrists. Comments: for the French market,circa 1840,with paper mache head attributed to Andreas Voit. Value Points: fine original finish with luminous patina,having superb original wig with tightly-braided coiled curls at each side and a braided chignon at the back of her head,and wearing her superb original costume of brown grenadine silk trimmed with black velvet and Alencon lace,early homespun undergarments,black leather slippers,and rose bonnet.
