12" (30 cm.) Solid-domed wooden head with deeply-carved facial features,very high domed
forehead with sculpted age wrinkles that also appear under the eyes,sharp definition of cheek
and jaw lines lending a somewhat gaunt look,grey painted brows,tiny black painted eyes that are
looking downward,closed mouth. cloth body,wooden hands. Likely representing an aged
philosopher,he has a painted black pate at the back of his head,and wears a black cap with
attached human hair queue,black silk jacket,maroon silk patterned tunic with blue lining,dark
blue silk trousers and black shoes. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Chinese Door of
Hope mission,circa 1920. Value Points: very rare figure with superb carving,original richly-
preserved costume.
