20" (51 cm.) Very firmly-constructed socket head of laminated cloth under nearly imperceptible wax, blue glass enamel eyes, brown all-around eyeshadow, arched brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with center accent line, blushed cheeks, blonde mohair curly wig, hollowed body that is also of laminated cloth and with wooden-peg jointing at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees, defined fingers and thumbs. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: circa 1865, attributed to Brouillet-Cacheleux who registered an 1861 design for this doll, specifically of the lightweight laminated cloth material. His concept was similar to the blown leather poupee body deposed by Clement of Paris in 1866. An article about these rare dolls by Dominique Pennegues is in Doll News, Spring, 2018.
