Description
15" (38 cm.) Poured wax shoulder head depicting a young lad,beautifully-shaped face with
small but piercing blue glass inset eyes,accented nostrils,closed mouth with accented
lips,blonde hair that is separately inserted into the wax allowing for a charming wispy
look,softly-stuffed cloth body,wax lower limbs. Condition: generally excellent,one thumb tip
missing. Comments: created by London's prestige wax doll firm of Pierotti,circa 1920,in
commemoration of the coronation of David's father,King Edward VII. (David,known after his
father's death as Edward VIII,became England's King for a short period of time before
abdicating in 1936 to marry Wallis Simpson). Value Points: rare portrait model,he is wearing
his original sailor costume and carries a silver bird whistle. The doll was written about by
Lynda Christian in Antique Doll Collector,July 2007 and has a blue ribbon from 2004 annual
meeting of Doll Collectors of America.
