Jubilee Doll SW (intertwined within garland) (original paper label. Comments: Hertel and
Schwab, the doll was exclusively commissioned by the American importer Strobel and Wilkin
in 1914 to celebrate their 100th anniversary; the inspiration for the model was the Campbell
Kid design of Grace Drayton that was then popular in America. Hertel and Schwab created
three models of the Jubilee Googly,163,164,and 165,for this centennial anniversary. The
molded hair model appears in this collection as lot #90. (The complete story of the Jubilee
Googlies is told in German Doll Studies by Cieslik, page 269). Value Points: the exceptionally
rare size of the googly,of which only one other model in this size is known to exist, allows
wonderful expression of character features, and is enhanced by finest quality of bisque and
painting, wonderful original unique body, and great costume including original "Jubilee" paper
label. The rarity and grand size indicate the doll's creation as an Exhibition model.
