18" (46 cm.) Solid domed bisque socket head,sculpted and painted hair in short side-part
bobbed fashion with forelock curl and reddish color with decorative glaze,brown glass side-
glancing eyes,dark eyeliner,painted curly lashes,one stroke brows,accented nostrils and eye
corners,closed mouth with watermelon-slice-shaped smile,shaded and outlined lips,rounded
blushed cheeks,composition and wooden ball-jointed toddler body with side-hip
jointing,wearing antique boy's costume with wonderful shirt and fly-front
trousers,stockings,shoes. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 163-9. Comments: Hertel
and Schwab,from the series of Jubilee Googlies created for the American importer Strobel and
Wilkin as a celebration of their 100th anniversary in 1914; three models were created,this
being the painted hair googly inspired by Grace Drayton's Campbell Kids who were popular in
America at the time. The exact doll is shown in the book The History and Art of Googlies,page
83. Value Points: rare larger size 9 of the wonderful character with finest quality bisque and
