Description
28" (71 cm.) Bisque socket head with sculpted short brown bobbed hair with bangs,deeply-
intaglio sculpted upper and side-glancing eyes with large pronounced pupils and blue
irises,white eye dots,black and incised upper eyeliner,slightly modeled feathered
brows,rounded upturned nose with accented nostrils,closed mouth modeled as though open
with defined space between the outlined lips,two painted upper teeth,composition and
wooden ball-jointed toddler body with side-hip jointing,wearing pink cotton romper suit with
featherstitch embroidery,woolen argyle stockings,leather shoes,carrying a butterfly net,
(additional costume comprising pink plaid pinafore and white blouse is included). Condition:
generally excellent. Marks: 13 Heubach (square) Germany. Comments: Gebruder
Heubach,circa 1913,the model was identified as sculpted by B. Zitzman for Heubach in their
advertising of that year from their series of "Unsere goldigen Drei" (Our Golden Three) and
this grand-sized example was clearly intended as an Exhibition Model. The exact doll is
shown in Lydia Richter's Heubach Character Dolls,page 99. Value Points: extremely-rare
grand size allows the superb characterization to be accentuated with deeply-set eye
sockets,intaglio-sculpted pupils,impressed modeling of dimples,and having finest quality
bisque and painting,rare and original toddler body,Richter provenance.
