11" (28 cm.) Pressed bisque swivel head on kid-edged bisque shoulder plate,deep blue glass
paperweight inset eyes,thick dark eyeliner,daintily-painted lashes,feathered brows,accented
nostrils and eye corners,closed mouth with heart-shaped upper lip,shaded and outlined lip
accents,pierced ears,waist-length blonde mohair wig over cork pate,kid bebe body with
gusset-jointing at hips and knees,curved kid arms with bisque forearms. Condition: generally
excellent,sturdy original body and perfect bisque hands. Marks: A. 1 T. (head) 1 (left shoulder)
A.T. (right shoulder). Comments: Andre Florent Thuillier,circa 1880,his earliest period bebe
with kid body and bisque hands. Thuillier had studied doll production during his early years at
the porcelain firm that supplied heads for the Huret doll,and after 1876 began to advertise his
own "dressed and undressed poupees". In 1880 he first advertised bebes; both the quality of
his dolls and their rarity indicate that the Thuillier firm maintained itself as a luxury boutique
establishment. Value Points: exceptionally rare size one,of which virtually no others with the
rare kid body are known to exist,with loveliest bisque and modeling,her enchanting presence
is accentuated by a fine silk and lace antique dress,undergarments,stockings,necklace,leather
shoes signed with full figure of doll and "1",luxurious straw bonnet,bone-handled parasol,and
embroidered silk purse.
