14" (36 cm.) h. seated. 8" x 8" base. Posed seated on a wooden base with elaborate gilt filigree edging and colorful scenes in the Watteau manner is a bisque head lady with brown glass eyes, closed mouth, ornate mohair wig, paper mache and metal body with crossed legs and hands shaped to hold a beautifully designed wooden mandolin, wearing original costume. When wound, music plays, she strums the mandolin, taps her foot and turns her head side to side. Condition: generally excellent, music and mechanism function well. Comments: French, early 1900s. Value Points: very pleasing scene is enhanced by high quality of decorative base and mandolin.
