15" (38 cm.) Bisque socket head with nearly solid dome,high forehead,angular face,painted blue eyes with black upper eyeliner,single stroke brows,pronounced white eyedots,accented nostrils,closed mouth with smiling expression,accented lips,row of sculpted teeth,blonde mohair wig,composition and wooden ball-jointed body. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 125 4 Germany (head) (Holz-Masse stamp on body). Comments: Adolf Wizlizensus,circa 1910,the firm advertised a series of "charakterpuppen" that year,naming the series "Gretchen" and noting that "all character series with painted as well as movable glass eyes" (a glass-eyed version of the same model is #328 of this catalog); this actual model was shown in their 1911 advertisements.. Value Points: very rare character with wonderful laughing expression,very choice bisque,wearing beautiful antique dress with embroidery details,crepe-de-chine bonnet,stockings,black leather shoes.
