17" (43 cm.) Solid domed bisque socket head with deeply-sculpted hair in short boyish
fashion,having curly locks onto his forehead,in shaded blonde/brown coloring with decorative
glaze,painted blue/grey upper-glancing eyes in deeply-set eye sockets,dark brown upper
eyeliner and brows,curved slender nose with upturned tip and accented nostrils,closed mouth
with defined space between the outlined lips,composition and wooden ball-jointed
body,antique costume comprising brown velvet jacket and short pants in the Little Lord
Fauntleroy style with silk shirt,lavish antique collar,knit stockings and leather saddle
shoes,and with faux-horn rim spectacles and wooden walking stick. Condition: generally
excellent. Marks: 153 S&H 7. Comments: Simon and Halbig,circa 1910,from their art character
series. Value Points: extraordinary deeply sculpted features including hair curls,eye
sockets,forehead definition,impressed dimples at corners of mouth,with finest quality of
bisque and painting,the matte complexion enhanced with dewy-glazed patina. The exact doll
in this costume was shown in Dolls,Images of Love by Selfridge and Cooper and in Marlene
Leuzzi's 1978 Price Guide to Dolls.
